Member Bob Swanson is truly a world-class woodworker. He is the designer and builder of our magnificent World's Oldest Photomapper Trophy, and I hope you have all had a chance to see that.

Just prior to the 2012 Reunion he gave the AFPMA a second treasure. This time a rendition of our Crest constructed of inlayed wood of various kinds. You have to see it to believe it, but the included pictures will give you an idea of the quality and amount of detail he obtained with ONLY natural woods.

Bob estimates he spent about 200 hours over a four month period just in its actual construction. He has requested that it eventually end-up in the Air Force Museum with the rest of our Photomapping memorabilia. In the meantime we hope to display it at all Reunions.

Another of Bob's better pieces is a wood inlayed portrait of the famous cartographer, philosopher and mathematician Gerardus Mercator. This is a name very familiar to the Navigators among us. That piece has been requested for display by the Library of Congress and Bob plans to present it to them soon. So you see we are in pretty heady company as recipients of Bob's largess! Thanks, Bob, for ANOTHER significant contribution to our organization!!!
