Irma C. Hughes

Irma C. (Loera) Hughes, 78, widow of Earl T. Hughes, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 while visiting her youngest daughter, Sheryl, in Connecticut, after a period of illness.

Irma was a native of El Paso,TX, born on August 4th, 1929, grew up living in Mexico City, New York, Los Angeles, and El Paso. She was very worldly, having lived in Japan for 6 years, Kansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and having travelled extensively to places such as Indonesia, Thailand, and India.

She was also very active as a Girl Scout leader for many years.

As a cancer survivor of 25 years, she always tried to live life to its fullest, devoting herself to her family-mainly her 6 precious grandchildren. Despite living life to its fullest, for the past few years she has confided to her children that she had lived a good life and couldn't wait to join "her honey," Earl, in heaven.

He passed away 16 years ago of cancer.

She is survived by her four children: daughter Laura Lawrence, son Earl Hughes III, son Harold Hughes II, his wife Sharon, daughter Sheryl Harle, her husband Stan; her six grandchildren: Michael Hughes, Eryka Lawrence, D'Ahna Lawrence, Shaun Harle, Earl Hughes IV, and Aida Hughes. She also is survived by her sister Velia Loera, her half-brothers Marco-Antonio Loera and Orlando Loera, and more cousins than you can count!

Viewing will be at Kaster-Maxon funeral home on Tuesday from 5-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. The mass and funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 am at Kaster-Maxon funeral home, with a graveside service at Ft. Bliss at 11 am. Donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
